PublishED is a University of Edinburgh student society focused on providing a community for aspiring publishers, editors, creatives and alike. Through The Inkwell, our semesterly magazine, we encourage and help those looking to become involved in the vast and fantastic world of the publishing industry.

Not only do we produce The Inkwell but we also run events throughout the year, ranging from guest speakers on illustration through to open mic nights and creative writing workshops: there’s something for everyone. Through these events, we hope to provide information and advice on how the book world works, and how to get involved in it through things such as CCCF and involvement with Society of Young Publishers Scotland (SYP Scotland).

Uni calendar dates may be arbitrary divisions of time, but these artificial beginnings provide excellent opportunities to seek out new experiences. Last September marked the start of my first year of university: an ideal moment to put down roots. As an English student, I was naturally drawn to literary organizations, among them PublishED. After their annual bookshop crawl, I joined the society and have attended every event since. Upcoming The Society of Authors Event!

On  Tuesday 23rd of January PublishED will be hosting our collaboration with The Society of Authors . We have decided to kick off the year with a presentation on the work of the SoA given by its chief executive Nicola Solomon , and Linda Strachan , acclaimed children's author and chair of the SoA in Scotland. The event will take place from 7.30-9 pm in the 50 George Square, Room G.04. You can find more information about the event the Published Facebook page. There will be an opportunity at the end of the presentation to ask questions. If you're curious about the world of publishing this is a great event to come to!
