THE TEAM

2022/23 Team

President

Patrick Merrigan

(He/him)

Patrick is a fourth year English Literature student. He has an odd autobiographical habit which leads him to compose in his mind from time to time a short sentence about himself containing a subject in the third person and a predicate in the past tense. If you're as big of a Joyce fanboy as he is, you'll know where that's from...

Vice-President

Khaled Bushnaq

(He/him)

Fourth year Law student. His favourite book is 1984. It's soooo Orwellian.

Secretary

Aleksandra Skarsten

(She/her)

Aleksandra is a postgraduate student at The University of Edinburgh pursuing a masters in Global Strategy & Sustainability. Although her major is business, she has a passion for literature, content creation and all things fiction. As an amateur creative writer, Aleksandra hopes to encourage fellow enthusiasts and help them on their journey to publishing their hidden gems.

Treasurer

Eddie Sorensen

(He/him)

Eddie is a fourth year Business & Economics student.

Editor-in-Chief

Sanna O.M. Waern

(She/her)

Originally from Sweden, Sanna is a queer poet and aspiring novelist currently living in Edinburgh where she is pursuing an MSc in Creative Writing at The University of Edinburgh. She has a keen interest in queer literature and protofeminist texts, and loves wild swimming, scruffy dogs and all things mythical.

General Editor

Yasmine Bridge

(She/her)

Yasmine is originally from Leeds, and studied English literature at Newcastle as an undergrad. She's now doing a Creative Writing MSc here at Edinburgh. Yasmine specialises in poetry but also enjoys screenwriting and play writing. A lover of reading and absorbing new writing, Edinburgh, for Yasmine, is the perfect place to seek creative inspiration, so she's super excited to get going in this role!

Prose Editor

Toby Appleyard

(He/him)

Toby is a third year English Lit student who (surprise surprise) loves reading. His favourite writers are Christopher Isherwood, Natalia Ginzburg and Caleb Azumah Nelson. Having written for The Inkwell in the past, he's really excited to get involved with the editorial process this year and looks forward to reading your submissions :)

Poetry Editor

Alex MacPhail

(He/they)

Alex is a third year History student. When not stressing over essays, he enjoys painting landscapes, writing his own poetry, and is not too shabby on the bagpipes. In addition to poetry editing, Alex is co-president of Slurp. He is especially excited to read everyone's poetry this year!

Drama Editor

India Hunter

(She/her)

India is a second year History of Art and English Literature student, but she promises that she's not as pretentious as that makes her sound. Some of her favourite things to read are the works of the Decadents and the Romantics, with Oscar Wilde being the one true love of her life. India is also co-producer for EUTC's Candlewasters this year and is already very happy to talk about all things theatre related.

Copy Editor

Mel Muntser

(She/her)

A lover of books, swimming, being outdoors and German Shepherds. Mel is here to help you find clarity in your words, should it ever get lost between the lines. Let's have some great discussions and get your work publishED ;)

Copy Editor

Cristina Rizzo

(She/her)

Cristina is an Italian masters student studying English Literature (specifically Modernist Lit). This is her first year in Edinburgh, and her fourth year in the UK as she's previously completed an undergraduate degree in York. Cristina also writes poetry and short stories on the side, and loves proofreading other people's work to see what her generation is writing.

Events Coordinator

Eddie Joannides

(He/him)

You were inside "studying" poetry. I was outside living it.

Welfare Officer

Oceane Khasawneh

(She/her)

Oceane is a second year Philosophy & Politics student who grew up in the UAE. She loves everything poetry and prose, and her greatest achievement in life is that she once was compared to Fleabag.

1st Year Representative

Wardah Thanvi

(She/her)

Wardah is a first year Arabic and Politics student from East London. She's passionate about fashion, art, design and anything editorial. Alongside her studies, she's also co-editor of Dubble, a zine dedicated to platforming disabled creatives. When not on campus, you can find her museum- and gallery-hopping, or tucked up in bed with a good book.
